Growing School and Classroom gardens since 2013

Kids' Growing City had humble beginnings starting as a after school gardening program in a private school in Toronto. And since then our main focus and obsession has been figuring out the answer to this question:

"What's the most effective way to teach elementary curriculum outdoors or even indoors using gardens as an authentic learning tool?"

And after almost a decade of working with educators side by side, developing, getting feedback, fine-tuning and testing different programs and doing research on the grounds, we feel very close to having a perfect solution that answers that question.

Before COVID in 2019 we helped 15 schools grow amazing school gardens with an in-school program, thoroughly connected to curriculum expectations.

Some of the schools we've worked with throughout the years are...

Redstone p.s., Windham Ridge P.S., Gosford P.S., Island Public/Natural Science School, R J Lang Elementary and Middle School, Don Mills M.S., Pelmo Park P.S., Donald Cousens P.S., Armadale P.S., Hollywood p.s., Beckett Farm P.S., Firgrove p.s., Somerset Academy, Mcmurrich p.s., CMS Private Schools, Richland Academy private school,

just to name a few.

Logistically Flexible

- Doable in most schools (an outdoor growing space is beneficial - but NOT NECESSARY for a successful program)

- For local schools (greater Toronto Area) All you need could be delivered* to your school, or picked up from our center with the purchase of "Printed" add-on (see below for more information).

This includes,
Educational Material (available online & physically for "Printed" Add-On):

1) A package for the teacher (as detailed above)

2) A booklet for each and every student (as detailed above)
for each and every one of the 15 lessons.

Supplies (available for  "Supplies" add-on):

3) For local schools (greater Toronto Area) all organic seeds, soil, seed starting pots, containers (for sub-irrigation), etc.could be delivered* to your school, or picked up from our center with the purchase of "Supplies" add-on (see below for more information).

- Seedlings that grow in classrooms can be transplanted in the school garden if you have one, promoting a community connection,

OR

If there’s no outdoor garden this year, they can be sold at a student-led market (entrepreneurial connection), given away to families and staff, donated to local community centers and gardens (community connection), etc.

And YES, there will even be harvests your students will enjoy in June

Online Friendly

To teach your online students or all your students in case of school shut-downs, all educational material is available in downloadable PDF format and all supplies will be picked up from school by parents or taken home by students.

Alternatively...

You could have your teachers develop this program.

All you really need is an experienced teacher who knows how to grow food in a school environment, has very strong knowledge of the curriculum, is good at program development and also has strong graphic design skills

Every lesson plan will take that teacher at least 3 hours, costing you probably around $600. Multiplied by 15 = $9,000

PLUS...

Every poster will take them at least 6 hours, costing you probably around $800. Multiplied by 15 = $12,000

And every student booklet will take them at least 1 hour, costing you probably $600 per 3 booklets. Multiplied by 5 = $3,000

This approach will cost you AT LEAST a total of $24,000.

OR...

You could try to replicate close to a decade of our experience growing classroom and school gardens, all by yourself without a plan or program like Oasis Classroom and without our help.

But frankly that's the reason most classroom and school gardens don't work, or if they do, don't continue...

It's simply too much trial and error and you'll need a lot of luck and tons of growing knowledge to do this right and to do it as impressively.

We suggest you skip all that and join this program!

With Oasis Classroom your Investment will only be the following.

We've developed a tiered Pricing to fit different budgets and needs.
